God created man in the best of stature, and distinguished him from other creatures in the beauty of his form, especially his face.
The beauty of the face lies in the beauty of the smile, and the beautiful smile lies in having healthy and bright teeth. Apart from their aesthetic feature, teeth cut and chew food to be digested easily.
Moreover, Almighty God distinguished man by speech. Teeth are one of the basic organs that enable man to speak. Many letters are pronounced with the assistance of the teeth. Teeth are susceptible to many problems such as decay, cracking and such. Therefore, people seek dental treatment which may require some procedures, most notably dental crowns.
Dental crowns (crowning)
Crowns are used most commonly to entirely cover a damaged tooth and restore it to its normal shape, size and function.
A dental crown may be needed in order to:
- Restore a broken tooth or hold together parts of a cracked tooth
- Cover a tooth with a large filling and not much tooth remaining
- Avoid long term damages
- Attach a bridge to replace missing teeth
- Protect a weak tooth from fracture
- Cover a dental implant
- Make cosmetic modifications
- Cover misshapen or severely discoloured teeth
Dental Crown procedure:
It usually takes two dental visits to fit dental crowns. The first visit involves examining and preparing the tooth. Impressions of the teeth will be made to receive the dental crown. Then they will be sent to a dental lab where the crown will be manufactured. The dentist will make temporary crowns to cover and protect the prepared tooth.
At the second visit, the dentist will make the temporary crown and make sure the new crown is flawless. Thereafter, a local anaesthetic is used and the permanent crown is cemented into place.
Types of dental crowns:
Different kinds of materials can be used in crowns, including:
- Lumineers
- Veneers
